Nathaniel 'Nate' Dumas is a certified personal trainer who has been dedicated to helping individuals achieve their fitness goals since 2015. His experience at the Downtown Oakland YMCA from 2015 to 2018 allowed him to work with clients of various age groups and fitness levels, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens and newcomers to advanced fitness enthusiasts.
Nate's expertise spans a wide range of training modalities, including traditional weight/resistance training, flexibility training, speed, agility, and quickness (SAQ) training, cardio training, TRX, and balance training. Unlike focusing solely on lifting heavy weights, Nate emphasizes the importance of helping clients reach their goals safely and without pain.
One of Nate's passions is witnessing his clients surpass their perceived limitations and set higher goals after achieving each milestone. He is dedicated to inspiring each client to embrace body positivity, either by integrating it into their existing goals or by building on their current body positivity with every training session.
In addition to his fitness qualifications, Nate holds a PhD in linguistic anthropology from UC Berkeley. This unique background brings a heightened sensitivity to cultural differences, influencing his approach to both training and communication styles. Nate's understanding of diverse perspectives allows him to create inclusive and personalized fitness experiences for his clients.
It's worth noting that Nate also juggles a full-time job in the tech industry, giving him firsthand experience of the challenges associated with building and maintaining a fitness routine while working demanding in-office and remote jobs. This dual expertise allows him to provide practical insights and guidance for individuals navigating the complexities of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in the context of a busy professional life.
